When navigating English learning options you may come across a variety of abbreviations and words. Some of these include;

The aspect in which ESL is taught is referred to as Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
ELICOS programs have been designed for students who require English language training before commencing formal studies in Australia. There are other English language programs that a student can do, but the Australian government has an official ELICOS student visa especially for students who do one of these courses. If you are an overseas student learning English it is wise to ask if the school is an approved ELICOS school.

CRICOS simply stands for Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
Vocational and tertiary educational courses being run for INTERNATIONAL or OVERSEAS students must be registered as a CRICOS academy or institution.
